LATEST NEWS:
CARNIVAL QUEEN CROWNED - and the sun shone

Image

It was a wonderful day on Millennium Meadow when over 100 people gathered for the Crowning of the Carnival Queen.

The Mayor and Mayoress in their finery, led Annabel Sankey, Rhianna England and their attendants on to the Meadow to rapturous applause. The hard work by Cindy, Michelle and their team in making the special dresses and sashes became all worthwhile as the sun shone down and smiles widened. Pride was everywhere.

It was Peter and Pauline's last official engagement before their chain of office is handed over. They expressed their thanks for the enjoyment gained throughout their year. Last year's Queen, Francesca, passed the crown to her successor who is already being lined up for a busy year of events.

Traditional Maypole Dancing accompanied by Brian on SqueezeBox followed, with adults and children alike dancing around the colourful pole with the ribbons swaying in the light breeze.

Meanwhile youngsters explored the Meadow's ponds and steams, collecting all sorts of wild creatures which were taken to Richard Osmond's wonderful Mobile Laboratory. Here they were examined and magnified to become Monsters from Outer Space.

Others explored the new Childrens Gathering Circle, a place of mystery - why 15 logs, why under an oak tree and what are the meaning of those rings? Its a terrific new feature, ideal for children and families to enjoy a picnic.

The Town is lucky to have the Meadow - it is a wonderful facility open to all. All those who made the day available have our complete thanks.

Further pictures will be posted on the Festival and Meadow websites when available.
